Suzy is the founder and director of Online OTs and CBIT Therapy and a certified, licensed occupational therapist. Her journey into the field began while volunteering at an orphanage for children with special needs in Tianjin, China. Since then, she has worked with individuals experiencing a wide range of sensory, medical, and behavioral conditions, including Autism, OCD, ADHD, anxiety, depression, Bipolar Disorder, tic disorders such as Tourette syndrome, and Body-Focused Repetitive Behaviors.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, Suzy was among the first health professionals to recognize and address the emergence of a mass sociogenic illness characterized by sudden-onset, persistent tic-like behaviors. Often referred to as “TikTok tics,” this condition was associated with exposure to social media content in which influencers displayed tic-like behaviors while inaccurately attributing them to Tourette syndrome.
Suzy has collaborated closely with Boston Children’s Hospital to support their patients with movement disorders and has contributed to related research. Click the link below to read an article published in the journal Brain and Behavior.
Time is ticking for TikTok tics: A retrospective follow-up study on the post-COVID-19 isolation era.
Outside of her clinical work, Suzy enjoys gardening, traveling, studying Spanish, spending time outdoors, reading, swimming, and connecting with friends and family. She also has an extensive collection of fidgets and a dog who serves as a telepet.
